KINDERGARTEN GARDEN, EATING AND COLORING EXPERIMENTS

During the last term we went on a field trip to an organic garden where we could see different types of plants, trees, flowers and fruits and veggies.
Kids were more than happy to try raw veggies coming from the ground:

so we couldn't think of anything better than a  garden project:

We introduced the topic with the adorable story TOPS AND BOTTOMS. and then discussed what food comes from tops or bottoms.

we made our own garden in the hallway discussing if the different food comes from the soil, plants or the ground:

We talked about what parts of the plants we eat: seeds, roots, stem, leaves or flowers and made an eating experiment:

A CELERY COLORING EXPERIMENT:
in order to understand how plants absorb water we did this simple experiment by placing celer stalks in colored water:

During the past weeks I started working with this amazing brainbreaks page. It is absolutely free and we are LOVING IT. We are doing Yoga activities with the adorable Maximo, we don't usually end up very relaxed but we have lots of fun.

MORE LITERACY CENTERS IN THE 4 YEAR OLD CLASSROOM.

I want to show you two literacy centers we have been working on lately:

The first one is our improvement of our SHAKE THE WORD game:
now we work on it as an independent center were in groups kids shake the dice, read the words and write them down on their papers: They are doing a great job with very little control from me, I can't be more proud of them.

Our second center is a building words center:
each of these little boxes has lots of laminated letters so the kids can play building words.
We first played with the whole group, making the rules clear and then we added to the literacy center for them to play in pairs:
