DAILY SCHEDULE

As we are working in a bilingual class, many different people come to our class and sometimes the students get a bit lost,  they also want to know when Jorge (the motorskills teacher) is coming or when we are going to the library, or who is coming to class next.

Last year I had a simple schedule in the class showing when it was time for routines, story time, experiment, centers etc. but this year the thing got a bit more complicated and it ended up in this:

On the left side of the closet you can see the teacher or teachers that will be in class in each session as well as when it's time for the playground, snacks and toilets and also when the kids go home or to the canteen. The right side is used to place special activities such as computers, library, motorskills, experiment, centers etc.  And the little green circle shows where we are at the moment. We started using it yesterday and it works brilliantly.

PHONICS LEARNING - SOUNDS INTRODUCTION

As our students are 5 years old spanish speakers we are starting to introduce the english sound using the jolly phonics approach; We introduce the sound using a song, followed by a gesture and a picture related in order to give students clues that will help them decode sounds while reading simple words.

When we introduce a word I usually draw things on the board that contain that sound just like this:

The first picture shows our "sounds in our names" poster. When we learn a sound we check if we have it in our names, if so we circle the sound, then the kids complete the worksheet and write the names of three classmates containing the sound we are practicing.

We also use the pre reading games from STARFALL as well as some sound activities.

Hopefully in a few weeks we will start practicing blending which i absolutely love because you can see the kids progress in reading and it's incredibly rewarding for me and for them too.

BROWN BEAR 2

Last month we finished with our brown bear unit where we revised colors and counting.

On Monday 26th the local tv came to our school and they filmed us performing the daily routines, retelling the brown bear story in english and singing the brown bear song.

I can say that the kids have never ever ever been soooo good in class. They were all properly seated, waiting their turn to speak using their inside voices. I was A M A Z E D lol. I think it will be aired on thursday.

Here are two table activities related to uppercase and lower case recognition and tracing the color words.

I got this firt activity idea in MRS.LEE'S BLOG.

Here kids have to cut the lower case color words and glue them on the corresponding uppercase.
