PHONEMIC AWARENESS and ALPHABET RECOGNITION GAMES.

Through Phonemic Awareness activities we try to help our students learn to different the different sounds in the spoken world. We don't deal with the written word just with the sounds.

We also work on alphabet recognition activities where we help our students associate those sounds to print.

SOUND TRAIN:
In this game kids had to help the words with a specific sound pattern get in the train

STAMP A SOUND:
In this activity kids named the pictures and recognized the printed letter that represents it to then stamp it:

SNAP GAME:
we do a gesture and kids haveto snap the letter, say the sound and a word in english containing it.

PHONICS IN 3 YEARS OLD: INTRODUCING SOUNDS.

During this third term my 3 years old were more interested and ready for sounds learning so we work more constantly now it.

HOW DO WE INTRODUCE THE SOUNDS?.
In order to introduce sounds from January to March we used the helper's name:

We found the class kids' names with the same sound as the helper's beginning sound. And then we look for english words with that sound. We listen to the song in the Jolly Phonics song cd and learn the gesture that represents the sound.

Until March we didn't follow any specific order when learning the sounds but now we are using the Jolly Phonics sequence through their big books.
We use them to revise and learn more sounds. The pictures and very useful to help kids remember words containing the specific sound we are working on.

USING DRAMA TO LEARN THE SOUNDS:

In order to learn the /a/ sound we made an enormous pretend sandwich and tried to eat it openning our mouths a lot.

We represented a birthday party for Paula in order to learn the /p/ sound.
Here you can see her blowing candles:

In order to learn the /c/ sound we clicked castanets.

We can differenciate when this sound is written with c or k using two different gestures.

we played drums to learn the /d/ sound.

We were hopping around the classroom to make the /h/ sound. (We needed to be very tired in order to pronounce it properly)

We playes tennis to learn the /t/ sound.
