WORKING WITH THE LORAX

So finally we started working with THE LORAX. We were beyond excited, most of the kids had watched the movie and now they are learning about the original lorax story.



We started watching the clip and then we read the story:

 When we finished telling the story we analyzed it and we described the Lorax using the poem in the book:

 They were very interested in how the once-ler would look like so we completed this activity using our imagination. They were still a bit mad because they don't understand why Seuss decided not to show this character.

Through a poster we analyzed cause and effect in the story and we then completed this activity:

 And today we decided to show the end of the story, were the kid with our help would replant the forest and all the animals and the lorax would come back. It ended up really well, they even wrote simple sentences describing what had changed compared to the town with no Truffula trees.

NExt week we will keep working on preserving nature and we will start working on recycling ideas.

Tomorrow it's going to be a hard day because we are hosting a solidarity fair at school were we intend to reach money for school in kenya( lots of hard work). We have been working on all these concepts these days too so i will tell you how it went.

TAKING CARE OF OUR PLANTS and READING GAMES

Our plants have  really long hair so... it is time to cut their hair.

We have also been playing to fun reading games:

in the first one we read words using magnifying glasses. It was real fun

In the second game we had to throw two dice, read the word and crossed it out. If we landed in a square that had already been crossed out we lost one point and the person that crossed it out earned one point.

BOOK APPRECIATION WEEK

LAST WEEK WAS BOOK APPRECIATION WEEK AT SCHOOL and these are the things we have been doing.

Teacher's and students recommended books and the schools' front door was decorated with pictures of us with our favorite books.I recommended "alice through the looking glass" I loove this book.

Parents came to school to read books and represent stories. We are very thankful to them for coming :) so we gave each of them a diploma.

One of my little ones even tried to tell them "the cat in the hat" in english, and two of the kiddos made diplomas for him...

we read and watched "the cat in a hat". THe kiddos loooved the story, and we made hats and two rhyming activities from www.homeschoolshare.com and from www.fun-in-first.blogspot.com.

From Ms. Larremore I got this idea for a bulletin board: Where do readers read?

During the whole week kids have been bringing books to do a book exchange with their classmates so if they brought 3 books they could take 3 books from the table:

And as we are such great reader we won  super readers necklaces

MORE AND MORE SEEDS AND PLANTS

Hello there:
After our last break before the end of the course i have lots of things to tell you.


I will start talking about our seeds and plants work:


Last week we read "Oh say can you seed?" by Dr. Seuss. It is an awesome book because as we are planting beans it shows us how they grow amazingly well.














we also talked about how plants can be useful for us and completed this simple activity:

We planted cat grass on plastic cups where we glued eyes, noses and mouths and now we have to wait to see it grow.   

                                              our garden is growing day by day .....

                      To finish talking about seeds and plants we took part in a contest:

kids had to choose among these 4 activities: what's my seed, how seeds grow, parts of a plant and how seeds travel.
If they got a right answer they would won a sticker.
