THE GREATEST JAPANESE CONTEST: END OF THE PROJECT

TO FINISH OUR PROJECT WE CREATED A CONTEST WHERE KIDS HAD TO COMPLETE CERTAIN TASKS RELATED TO ALL THE THING WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON DURING THE PROJECT.

Kids had to play certain games in order to win stickers and prove they know lots of things about Japan.

1. some of the kids had to label geishas, samurais, food and instruments.

2. OTHERS HAD TO RECOGNIZE INSTRUMENTS BY EAR.

We listen to the instruments at: http://www.pbs.org/empires/japan/instruments.html

 3. OTHER HAD TO TRY TO TAKE A PLASTIC BANANA USING CHOPSTICKS.

4. OTHERS HAD TO PLAY JAPANESE DIALOGUES.

5. AND OTHER DESCRIBED THE JAPANESE FLAG.

At the begining of the project our project wall looked like this:

JAPANESE WRITING IN 5 YEARS C ROOM

We have been very busy this week finishing our project about Japan:

We first learned that Japanese people write using different simbols in their kanji alphabet.

A friend of mine helped me translate my students' names into Japanese using katakana alphabet. They were very excited to hear their japanese names and try to write them using  the symbols.

YOGA IN 5 YEARS C

As part of our Japan Project we decided to do some Yoga in our motor skills class. It ended up very well and kids enjoyed very much:

JAPANESE FOOD

We learned four types of japanese food : sushi, rice, noodles and mochi, we also learned that japenese people use chopsticks instead of forks, knifes and spoons and we did some table time activities related.

NUMBER 3 MATH WORKSHEET

We divided the class in three groups where one was doing an independent activity (find the difference in a japanese garden), another was learning how to use chopsticks and the last one was roleplaying a japanese restaurant.

                                              1. LEARNING TO USE CHOPSTICKS.
We were very lucky because one of the chinese girls at school came to show us how to use chopsticks. She makes it seem so easy!!! In this picture you can see her and one of the class kids trying to copy her.

Although using chopsticks is very difficult they did it surprisingly well. They were able to take all the bread pieces from the plates. It was soo much fun!!!!

2. JAPANESE RESTAURANT.
Using a simple dialogue in English kids represented a restaurant conversation. We had two cooks, two waiters and 3 costumers.

                                                      Costumer checking the menu.

Costumer eating her order (sushi and water)

waiter collecting money

 cooks and waiters working hard.

They enjoy using chopsticks so much that they tried to take everything with them:
