MY FAVORITE SEED

As we had already seen seeds in small groups, we were going to try to remember which seed became which fruit or vegetable. And then we graphed seeds to see which one was the class favorite

This is our kindergarten garden so far. In Spanish, Asun told them the story of Jack and the Bean stalk and then planted beans. Next week, we are planting grass. I'll tell you how it goes.

Have a great week you all, enjoy your Sunday.

PARTS OF A FLOWER AND SMALL GROUPS WORK ON SEEDS

                                                         PARTS OF A FLOWER
Using the flower poster we learn the parts of the flower and then we make a flower craft.

SCIENCE WITH PLANTS in small groups

GROUP 1. ANALYZING SEEDS.
We analyze different size of seeds and we talk about them, we sequence them by size and then we examine them and try to relate them to the fruit or vegetable they become.

GROUP 2. POLLINATION DEMONSTRATION
To work on our pollination center we need to:
1. Prepare two small paper flowers per table
2. Lay flowers on the table and sprinkle “pollen” sequins in center of first flower.
3. Make a bee puppet with holes for your fingers.
4. Tell the students that your fingers are the bee’s legs. “fly” bee to one flower and land on it, make sure you pick up some sequins in your fingers.
5. “fly” the bee to second flower and land on it. Dropping sequins when you touch the flower.
6. Explain that bees spread pollen as they fly from flower to flower.

Them Students create their own pollination worksheet.
(this fantastic idea comes from LILTEACHER.COMLILTEACHER.COM)

GROUP 3 (INDEPENDENT WORK). SEQUENCING HOW PLANTS GROW AND WRITING ON OUR WRITE AND WIPE BOARDS.
Kids try to sequence how seeds grow as we learned through the poster previously and then wrote some words in our write and wipe boards.

OH SAY CAN YOU SEED?

After ten great days of spring holidays we came back full of energy to start our work with seeds, plants and flowers...

We introduced the topic through "the tiny seed" story.

After reading the story we completed a simple story map:

We also sort the things that are good or bad for the tiny seed. First, on the board and then on paper at table time:
(this is an adaptation of an activity i founf on the net)
HOW PLANTS GROW DRAMATIZATION: in small groups we represented how plants grow following this sequence:
1. The tiny seeds are sleeping underground,
2. Look it is raining now (Kids at the table pretend to be the rain).
3. The tiny seeds wake up and start to grow into plants.
4. Look it is sunny now(kids at the table pretend to be the sun shining).
5. The plants keep growing and we can see their leaves.
6. Look now it is raining and sunny( one table is the rain the other the sun).
7. Our plants are now big and beautiful.

HOW PLANTS GROW POSTER :
To analyze more carefully how we can plant flowers and
other plants we use this poster where we sequence the
stages.

(I don't remember where I got the sequencing cards from)
